Built to Thrill

I grew up in Sandusky Ohio, which means I grew up around rollercoasters.

Telling someone you had season passes to Cedar Point as a kid yields confusion or awe-stricken jealousy depending on your conversation partner. To the initiated, that place is holy ground: 18 world-class coasters, 70 rides overall, a robust arcade for rainy days and corndogs so perfect they could make Giannis sign with the Cavs.

My family never went to Busch Gardens, Six Flags or King’s Island. We didn’t need to. Cedar Point was the best. And if visitors from all over the globe flocking to little old sand-town didn’t shout that from the heavens, the park itself did, with “World’s Best Amusement Park!” banners hanging from every surface imaginable (Cedar Point topped the polls for an incredible 16 straight years before silver medaling in 2014 behind some German dump).

I had so much exposure in my youth that I became a casual fan of rollercoasters. Rollercoasters! Those things that are inherently thrilling! I mean my God, the hubris. My friends and I rode them so much that we got bored, we invented games to keep them interesting, and by 8th grade we mostly went to the park to play Dance Dance Revolution.

On today’s Nerdy for 30 Tim and I talk about The Suicide Squad. We loved it. It’s by no means a perfect movie, but there are more than enough surprises to make it one hell of a fun ride. Trust me, I should know.
