Lo-Fi: Live at Union Hall
Tour Poster
Mixed Media, 2018
Client: Lo-Fi NYC
This poster was created to celebrate Lo-Fi NYC’s move from Under St. Marks (a punk rock basement in Manhattan’s East Village) to Brooklyn’s venerated comedy venue Union Hall.
I kept the cut-paper aesthetic I’d started using for Lo-Fi to maintain the same DIY charm we have in our shows. And speaking of DIY, this piece was designed in Photoshop, printed at Kinko’s, sliced up, re-assembled, scanned, then brought back into Photoshop for finishing touches.
The general positioning of the collage was inspired by the poster for the Gorillaz documentary Bananaz (one of my favs).
The poster, this time as album art.
The photos are from iconic Lo-Fi characters and every performer is tinted with their favorite color—the idea is that those factors would combine to show off each cast member’s unique personality. Everyone’s head is enlarged to make them look a little more cartoony, and the lid to the trash can has been blown off to give this static piece some energy.
I also made some “show info” panels for social media so that I could share that square version above without covering it in text.
