Summer Daze 2013 Poster

Summer’s just around the corner (at press time at least) and the warm weather always meant SUMMER DAZE was just around the corner.

The improv team Warren commissioned posters for their Summer Daze mini festivals from 2013-2018 and this is the first of that collection. Since the team was relatively new at the time, I wanted to put a special emphasis on their logo and wordmark (also made by yours truly). Later posters put more emphasis on the title of the festival itself.

The salmon colors radiating off of the logo are meant to give you the feeling of soft heat in the late summer months. The lens flare on the logo is like the late-afternoon sun coming through the window, and the border is one of my favorite optical illusions—a solid color border around a gradient image, making it seem like the border itself is changing as your eye moves down the poster.

This was a fun show from a fun summer, and I had just as much fun making the poster.
