Absolute Beginners
Downward dog baffles me. It’s the most well-known yoga position by far—I do not know yoga and I know about downward dog—and yet, I can’t make it happen. I see the person on the screen and the triangle their body makes with the floor and I look at myself and I’m a rectangle, at best. There should be some kind of a framing system you can use to mold yourself into positions so you can know what they feel like. I know what it looks like, but I think I need to know what it feels like.
Brian uploaded episode 2 of The Twenty Sided Podcast today and it’s really terrific. Asking someone to listen to a podcast is like opening a quesadilla restaurant between a Taco Bell and a Chipotle. As strangers to you, we nascent entertainers represent a sizable risk, and your time is valuable; it’s on us to give you a hook worth trying, and to imbue the product with enough quality so as to make it competitive in the marketplace. I really believe Brian has done that here, with music and sound effects that help immerse the most reluctant brains into the world and succinct, digestible explanations of DND gameplay for the uninitiated.
The middle of the Venn diagram here is accessibility. I’m going to keep trying downward dog because I’m convinced doing yoga would improve my life. And I hope this episode of Twenty Sided Podcast improves yours, even for the day.
